Ruby Red Spikemoss
Ruby Red Spikemoss
This is one of the most stunningly beautiful Spikemosses we have ever grown. It is slightly taller than some others, clocking in at a height of up to 6” with a spread of 8” or more depending on how far it manages to slowly creep. It has a lovely branching habit with a blue-green sheen to the top of the foliage, while the underside flushes brilliant, ruby red to burgundy tones, sometimes accompanied by lighter, almost white-ochre coloration on the tips of the underside. Even the creping root filaments are a bright red color! Of course, something this showy just has to be tropical. Hailing from Brazil and Tropical South America, it needs to be protected from frost and prefers Shade to Part Shade, or ample Indirect or Filtered light to avoid scorching. It also prefers a high humidity environment, making it a great choice as a showy terrarium or fairy garden plant. We have seen some growers label this as a “Club Moss”, but as a member of the genus Selaginella it’s structure and habit is definitely more characteristic of a classic Spikemoss.
