Crisped Broad Buckler Fern (Dryopteris dilatata 'Crispa Whiteside')
Crisped Broad Buckler Fern (Dryopteris dilatata 'Crispa Whiteside')
The broadly triangular fronds become decumbent as the weight of the fully mature crisped foliose pinnules bend the fronds. The frond color is somewhat lighter than the usual muted dark green of the species. Due to its brittle nature this fern is best sited away from trees that drop parts of themselves frequently about. I also feel it is best sited so it can be looked down into from above, a position from which its splendid splayed v-shape is suitably displayed. The parent stock plant is from Reginald Kaye and has been in his possession from Robert Whiteside's collection for many years. It is a joy to have been instrumental in introducing this fern so dear to Reg to the US market.
