Hybrid Male Fern (Dryopteris x complexa)
Hybrid Male Fern (Dryopteris x complexa)
This hybrid species of Dryopteris affinis crossed with Dryopteris filix-mas is one of the fastest growing and most vigorous of the European woodland ferns, with many notable cultivars selected out the species including ‘Robust’ (‘Undulata Robusta’), ‘Stableri’, ‘Stableri Crisped’, and Judith’s own personal introduction ‘Rumplestiltskin’. The species has toothed margins and rounded apices on the frond segments, giving it a slight shaggy look. If you are looking for a large, fast growing fern to fill a garden space, look no further!
