Silver Dollar Fern (Adiantum peruvianum)
Silver Dollar Fern (Adiantum peruvianum)
This tropical, large-leaf maidenhair fern is quite impressive sporting much larger than typical segments suspended on wiry black stems. New growth emerges a pinkish color and fades through tones of silvery green before finally maturing to a satin green sheen. Tropical maidenhair ferns are typically found on shady slopes and prefer to stay moist but may be susceptible to rot if over-watered and will perform better with some indirect or filtered light exposure as vigor and color may be reduced in deep shade.
Frond Condition: Evergreen in tropical conditions or as a houseplant; may defoliate for a period in marginal conditions
Mature Size: 12-14” (Approx. 1 ft)
Origin: South America
Cultural Requirements: Part Shade or Filtered/Indirect Light to Shade, Moist to Lightly Moist. Very tropical so requires frost protection and prefer temperatures about 65 F
USDA Zones: Zone 10, Zone 11, or as a Houseplant
