Tiger Stripe Boston Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata ‘Tiger’)

$20.00

A stunning variegated Boston Fern with green and yellow stripes.  New fronds may emerge a golden yellow or striped pale yellow and green, fading into lighter yellow and deeper green as the pendulous fronds mature.  Unlike some compact and lacy forms of Boston Fern, this one doesn’t mind frequent overhead watering as it has ample space between the segments to allow for drainage and good airflow so it doesn’t trap moisture on the fronds.  Because of its draping habit, hanging baskets or raised planters and containers are ideal, as it allows the 2-3’ fronds and wiry root filaments to cascade down without touching the ground.

Frond Condition: Evergreen; may be Semi-Evergreen in marginal conditions.

Mature Size: 2-3’

Root Type: Slowly Creeping Rhizome with wiry root filaments

Origin: Cultivar selected out of Nephrolepis exaltata, which is widespread in the tropics

Cultural Requirements: Part Sun to Full Shade, Moist to Lightly Moist or Dryish; does not mind drying out between waterings.  Filtered or constant indirect light and lightly moist is ideal.  Keep dryer in the low-light winter months when growth is not as active.

USDA Zones: 9 (protect from frost or keep dryer in the winter) 10, 11, 12 or as a Houseplant.
