An extra large version of the ever popular Japanese painted fern, hence the moniker ‘Godzilla’.  While most Japanese Painted Fern cultivars mature to a size of about 12”-24”, this one tops out at about 3 feet when mature.  This is the first time we have trialed this cultivar and we are eager to see it develop.  It appears to have longer, stiffer stipes (stems) than a typical painted fern, which allows it to hold its large fronds higher off the ground in a more arching habit rather than the somewhat floppy low-arching to horizontal habit.
