Beautiful Wood Fern (Dryopteris pulcherrima)
Beautiful Wood Fern (Dryopteris pulcherrima)
Synonyms: Beautiful Chinese Wood Fern, Chinese Wood Fern
A very handsome woodland Dryopteris with large, triangular fronds. It is somewhat reminiscent of our U.S. Native Marginal Wood Fern, Dryopteris marginalis, except D. pulcherrima has wider fronds that tend to arch down more as they mature but still have that lovely, almost overlapping character to their pinnae. As a fairly new introduction, the overall hardiness has not been established but we suspect it is adaptable in Zones 6-9.
