Palm Leaf or Kiokio Fern (Blechnum novae-zelandiae)
Palm Leaf or Kiokio Fern (Blechnum novae-zelandiae)
The Maori name for this fern is Kiokio, also known as the Palm Leaf fern because of the long, lance like segments on colossal fronds that mimic the foliage structure of many species of palms. New fronds a emerge in brilliant shades of red, pink and ochre. Even though it is quite tropical looking, it is fairly adaptable to cooler climates and can withstand a moderate amount of cold and frost, though this may cause it to be Semi-Evergreen rather than keeping its fronds up all year.
