'Lisa' Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum raddianum 'Lisa')
'Lisa' Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum raddianum 'Lisa')
New fern, picture coming soon!
A very upright, compact sub-tropical Maidenhair Fern selected out of the species A. raddianum with a very distinct foliage pattern. The unusual thing about this cultivar is that the stipe and rachis (stem and stalk) are held nearly completely upright on a vertical plane, with soft dark green pinnae that are so cupped on the adaxial (top or front side) surface, that mostly only the abaxial (bottom or back side) of the foliage is visible. The overall effect highlights the straight, black stems, graced by little v-shaped inverted cones resembling a small tower of suspended green vases! Or if you prefer, like little curled up witch-feet, if you happen to remember what happened when Dorothy’s house fell on the Wicked Witch of the East. Though it does not get as large or grow quite as fast, cultivation requirements are similar to the species A. raddianum.
Frond Condition: Deciduous; may be Semi-Evergreen to Evergreen in Sub-Tropical Conditions
Mature Size: 1-2’, slowly colonizing
Origin: cultivar selected out of A. raddianum, Native to Southern U.S.
