Bipinnate (twice divided) frond segments are trapezoidal in shape, similar to some species of tropical maidenhair ferns, with rounded edges. New fronds emerge with a reddish tinge and turn bronze and mahogany colors as they mature and harden off to a glossy green.
The erect rhizome builds up over time into a pseudo-trunk, and it is sometimes also called the “Maidenhair Tree Fern”.
