Mother Fern (Asplenium 'Parvati' [A. dimorphum x A. difforme])
Mother Fern (Asplenium 'Parvati' [A. dimorphum x A. difforme])
Also sold as: Norfolk Island Spleenwort
The stiff, waxy fronds of this evergreen hybrid fern make it a little more forgiving about variations in ambient humidity than other sub-tropical and tropical Asplenium species, as the waxy coating allows it to store and use water more effectively and resist wilting in dry heat. As the fronds unfurl the pinna begin very chubby and rounded, gradually develop deeper notches between lobes and a greater degree of dissection as fronds age and more mature fronds are produced. In our trials it was moderately slow growing compared to our other sub-tropical and tropical crops, and has stayed quite compact with very dense growth.
Frond Condition: Evergreen
Mature Size: 12-18”
Origin: Australia
Requirements: does not like temperatures below 50 F. Prefers Part Shade. Will tolerate Part Sun but may become lightly burned or turn yellowish-brown in too much light; Full Shade is not recommended as plants may slowly lose their vigor and become leggy. Prefers Evenly Moist to Lightly Moist to Dryish; for best results use a well drained medium allow to dry out between waterings. Water with room temperature water.
USDA Zones: 9, 10, 11 or as a houseplant
